A lovely meadow above Innsbruck

Description

Poppies are the quintessential summer flowers, their bright red heads bobbing in the wind among long grasses or stalks of wheat. Such was the scene when I set up my easel to paint “Summer in the Valley” in a lovely meadow above Innsbruck. Being in Tyrol, these poppies have an amazing backdrop provided by the North chain of the Karwendel alps. I was inspired by the remains of snow in the crags on the mountain tops contrasted against the summery scene in the valley below- the starkness of the bare grey rocks agains the fertile abundance and bright colours in the foreground. It was this contrast that I wanted to capture in my painting.

“Summer in the Valley” was painted en plein air in the Inn valley, Tyrol, Austria on Fabriano rough, heavy weight (650gsm) 100% cotton-cut ,mould made watercolour paper using Windsor and Newton paints. It comes with a warm white mount to fit a standard frame size of 60cm x 80 cm and is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity signed by the artist.
